First up, Merry Christmas to all and apologies (mostly to myself) for not blogging more. I've been going through some soul searching since the last blog post which warrants a whole other blog onto itself but I've burdened most of you about those issues over and over again and well, I won't bring it up again.
I'm home in Atlanta for the holidays where I've been battling the worse flu I've had since college. Yesterday, I got 5 txt messages from various people, all with "Merry Christmas" or the like. I thought, "Wow, thanks." But then I thought, "Wait a minute, is this what we've come to?"
None of the messages (like the one above) were sent with any kind of personalization. I figured each one was done by typing in "Merry Christmas" and then sent to pretty much everyone in their phone book. (Never mind me being able to do this, since the iPhone won't allow for a message to be sent to multiple people).
I don't recall getting mass Christmas wishes last year on my phone but it was a surprise that I got 5 of 'em this year. Have we become so lazy and impersonal that we're now sending "Merry Xmas" messages over SMS?
Before, if you were to BCC people on an e-mail letter and sent out a generic warm wishes e-mail, it would look really lame. Heck, even sending out Christmas cards with just your name signed at the bottom was once frowned upon.
Now mass SMS wishes?
I'm waiting for the day where sending mass TXT messages to your friends about the birth of your child becomes the norm...
